Need an OEM X5 Hitch

I am looking for an OEM Hitch kit for my 2002 X5. I have been calling the BMW dealers and they say that there are none being made right now. I have an after market hitch on it now and it is causing damage to the unibody. Does anyone have an OEM BMW X5 Hitch for sale? I would even consider a used one.

Weasel will become famous soon enough
A couple members entertained the idea of swapping their OEM hitch for the OEM bumper support that it replaces... but it will likely be expensive.

Which aftermarket hitch do you have? From the sound of it you have this one:

If all else fails, get this one, the curt hitch... it is cheaper and better than the other ones (for aftermarket) the "grilles for you" name across the pic is the ebay store I bought mine from for $99

I've got the Curt hitch. It's flexing the unibody at the point where it bolts on. It does'nt have any stability to keep it from tilting up and down and therefore causes the body to flex and split.

Makes me want to take mine apart and have a look. I guess your saying that its starting to twist under load. Hey Weasel, what size bar did you find that fits? Are you thinking of fabing together an insert rod and plate on the outside of the hitch mounts or is there enough clearance to add a plate under the mount?

I'm going to make something similar to this, which spreads the load into the frame ends like the oem euro hitch does. I would already have made mine but the steel I bought the first time was 1/8" too thick.... grrr. So needless to say I've been a slacker in that department since, but did get to extend my workbench in the work shed to fit my compound slider saw and drill press... so maybe with the new work area I'd be more inclined to fab them up...?

Do those extensions bolt to the frame, or just slide up against it?

To the frame.

Got tons of pics of hitch install & deinstall. Working on detail article.

This is the inside the trunk view of the bolts which go into the pic of piece weasel posted. Bolts go from bottom, top and back.

This is under the car above the exhaust shields. The 2 bolts go on to the same piece.

An 6 x 12 enclosed single axle with about 400lbs in it. Trailer by itself is 1500lbs. Did not weight the tongue but I can lift it. Reccomended tongue weight for the Curt Hitch is 500lbs and for the Cequent is 600lbs with 6000 towing capacity. The Curt twisted downward so the chains and the electrical plug got wedged to the bumper cover. I put a long heavy duty pry bar into the reciever and noticed when I would lift on it the hitch and the unibody was twisting at the seems under the bumper shocks.
