Well, you're probably not gonna get what you'd like with the economy as it is. If you want to get an idea, go search on what other comparable vehicles are going for. Check autotrader.com and cars.com. Ebay can be deceiving but use the completed listings search function.

Hopefully, you won't have to give up your nice X.

Well here's my main competition I guess. The closest comp I could find, almost exact same mileage but a year newer. Obviously not as upgraded as mine:

2001 BMW X5 4.4i AWD

Market is rough for any vehicle right now. The biggest thing you will have to overcome is the fact it's now a 9 year old vehicle. Unless you find a cash buyer, it's going to be extremely hard for someone to get financed at a decent rate if it all. My advice - keep it. It looks great and will be hard to replace with something as nice without spending a ton of money. I thought long and hard about getting rid of mine, but I decided to do a bunch of maintenance to it instead and keep it for the long haul!

I just wanted to make you feel a little better about the Tow hitch. This problem is also affecting other manufacturers. A friend drives and Infiniti and they have no tow hitches either. Have you considered paying for a move with a pod based company or something like that? I moved my stuff across country that way and it was not very expensive. A friend moved from DC to Colorado for about $800 using Pods in late december.

Good luck!

I agree with Vegas, I thought of selling/trading mine as well, and as I test drove other cars, such as new Jeep Grand Cherokees and Hummer H3's, at the price i was looking to pay, nothing compared in handling, pickup, power and overall pride of the vehicle. One of the reasons I was looking to switch out of my X5 was because I didnt have a trailer hitch either, and I wanted to tow a small boat. It actually isn't too expensive to add a hitch, you should look into it.
