Hmmm... I believe the correct answer is it can read AND clear faults. The reason I say this is you use the Diagnosis section to do tests and it gives you the faults. Then it gives you the option to delete them w/o leaving the Diagnosis area.

That's if I'm remembering correctly using v43. I'm assuming v55 works the same way.

The part about live data I can verify that it does that with voltage in v43. Again, I assume v55 is the same. What other live data it can read, I don't know.

In short session that I had with DIS 55 I was able to read all errors and erase them. I would say that it's doing 99% of what I need. If I ever need to program something I will get laptop or figure something else.

I noticed that it doesn't give error descriptions fo DME, just codes

Hmm ... I wonder if its the same with v43? Anyways, try punching in the BMW codes and get the descriptions that way. Link from first post:

Weasel will become famous soon enough
In the dealer world (real DK head and OPS head) both heads are used for programming on different cars. The ops/opps head has never done me wrong for programming except for the vehicles not supported (mainly E46 and E53) For those 2 it is the DK head.

Sorry if I'm incoherent as it is after 4 am and I am pretty drunk.. (thank god for spell checker, I have 2 keyboards!)

Is ya nutz! You're addicted to alcohol AND X5world!

I'm positive I couldn't type that much, with spellchecker or not, being drunk. Also, I'm pretty sure I would pass out and not be capable of trying to get online!

So, weasel, what about my Car/Key Memory rumor about not being able to do any of those settings with SSS?

Sorry if I am hi-jacking this thread, but if weasel is out there? a response I had from one tuning company as to whether or not ecu remaps were detectable is as follows:

"Hello

The dealers tools are not as sophisticated as our tools all they are able to do is diagnose problems with cars not changes in ECU software... If your service person was correct we would not be in business and BMW would not be investing in the EDC17 Tricore locked ECUs to try and stop tuners, which Alientech have now unlocked with the EDC17 adapter..."

So weasel or anyone ?can the tweaks be detected?

Damn that was a long and rough night...!!! One of my friends from work opted to be DD with my X so I got to actually drink more than usual that night. (I think the unavoidable crowded parking lot in a bar-filled area is where my new door ding came from.....) But overall a really fun night because I have a large group of friends that are all very excellent people.

But yes, you can still do car and key memory with the SSS, it's just a slightly different process. But when you get it up and running it will be easy as 1-2-pie.

Ok. $ question. How do I reset oil and service light with GT1?

Today played some more. I use VMWare. Set up separate hardware profile in XP, hardcoded IP there and disabled all other network connections but VMWare ones and LAN.

SSS Works. Head found no problem and I was able to connect to my car. It won't start session because of low voltage. SSS was "giving me a favor" referring to yellow head as to "old one"

But it works.

Between SSS and DIS it helps to disconnect head from car to reset it, otherwise DIS and SSS "compete" for the same head saying it's "occupied"

So, I got process down and I can use DIS just fine. If I get charger or whatever then I will be able to use SSS.

Took me about 20 minutes in DIS to browse around to figure out what's up with LCM. Had to go to Advanced Mode to figure that my license plate light out

So far I'm happy. Very cool. And I think I will sell my HDD with V43 if somebody interested in one.

Good to hear that it worked for you! What version and where did you get SSS? Didn't you experience slowness when you run DIS from VMPlayer?
