HELP ME PLEASE !

Hi everyone. I am a newby and have just purchased a 2005 Turbo Diesel. It has been sitting at a workshop for two weeks now with the following problems.

1. Alternator went dead (surprise surprise). I replaced both battery and alternator.
2. Computers went down, had a technition reflash and restore the electronics and clear all trouble codes and re test after test drive.

The car did go into limp mode when the power was going low but prior to that the car was going through all gears and plenty of power.

Ever since the alternator was replaced, the car feels like it has only got 10% of the power and almost stops even under full throttle on an incline.
I can hear the turbo under boost but no power output. I have just done a service inclinding Fuel, Oil and Air Filters and oil change to no avail.

The technition I used is a smart man and swears its not an electrical fault and is mechanical. Is this co incidence it stuffed up just after re assembling the alternator or can there be another cause ie blockage somewhere or incorrect installation of belt (if thats possible).

Any help or ideas on the problem would be appreciated as I already went over my head on the purchase and now the repair bills are stacking up and I havent even driven it for more than a day. (purchased at auction). It is not under warranty.

I am not really familiar with the situation or if you could even get the thing to run this way, but is it possible that you are trying to run a 12V battery on a 24V system? Just the first thing that popped into my head.

Hmmm .... diesel .. turbo ... calling all the 3.0d experts!

Does it show any messages in the dash? I wonder if its in some kind of failsafe/limp mode?

I don't know doo-doo about diesels but whenever I blew off the turbo hoses on my old VR-4 I felt the loss in power but not like having only 10%!

Does it idle fine? Sounds almost like its fuel starved.

To my knowledge the car runs on 12V system and a 12V Battery was installed. The alternator replaced was a 150A valeo alternator 12-14V so I assume that it ran on 12V and only 1 battery.

That would be a good indicator...

The fuel filter was replaced. It idles and runs smooth but just has reduced power output. I put a new battery in it straight away. After a 20 min drive home noticed battery/alt light on dash, then as the battery was about to die almost every light came on the dash like a xmas tree due to the low voltage. It did go into transmission failsafe mode and locked in 3rd but prior to the voltage drop it was driving fine. After the computers reset and trouble codes were all cleared. Im not sure to believe the technician that it is not an electronic problem. Its killing my life...

Sounds electrical to me. And possibly a combination of things.

New battery and alternator - check.

Drives fine until 20 minutes after, albeit low power, which seems to indicate no juice for gas cars. Sounds like you have a charging problem.

However, someone mentioned something like diesels don't use electricity once started - is this true? Again, don't know diesels.

Sorry my bad. Due to the alt stuffed I only got 20mins out of a new battery. Alternator is charging fine now and battery ok. Not needing electricity is def not true. No alternator on a new 750CC heavy duty battery = disaster in 20mins.

Okay, so you're saying currently:

- alternator & battery fine
- car idles fine
- no dash messages or idiot lights on
- will run but very low power (10% power only)

Did I miss anything?

What does the engine sound like when it is running at 10% power?
