HI GUYS,
DOES ANYONE KNOW WHY THE " P " LIGHT IS ALWAYS ON WHEN ENGINE IS OFF AND KEY OUT ??? IS THERE A WAY OF TURNING IT OFF ???

It turns off by itself when the x5 goes to sleep mode in around 15 minutes.

Yes, it moves from gear to gear depending on which one it's in. Check it out next time you're driving.

the p light on gear selector stays on for a time , if it`s red park brake light then there may be a problem .

This has been debated many times - not all models does the light turn off. My '01's light stays on all of the time, unless it can sense my presence as I approach.

I just confirmed this - went out for lunch and after sitting 4+ hours the light was still on.
