3.o intake removal?

does anyone have a link or some info that can give me some details, torque ratings etc..on the R&R of the intake on my 3.0. I have to replace the ccv and hoses this weekend. before you ask, yes i am capable of the job-no i don't have a service manual and i don't really wanna drop 90 bucks on one for a vehicle that i'll probably not have in a year. thanks

If you will not have it in a year, why take the mani off? You can do the job successfully without taking the intake off, but you will not be able to clean the manifold out very well if you find it to be junked up with sludge. Take the air intake system off, including the throttlebody, drop the engine harness block out of the way, and you have a clear shot to the screws that hold the valve onto the block.

i'm not to concerned with cleaning the manifold. what about hose replacement? it seems awfully tough to tell wether every thing is on correctly with the intake on.

Well yes, it is not the most simple of chores, but I find that leaving the manifold on is a few more things that cannot go wrong with this job. I guess if you have huge hands or like to visually check everything, then it would be preferable to remove the manifold.

In my times doing this project I have never had problems or doubts about hose connection. They have a positive engagement for the most part, and it's been pretty obvious to me if they were not together.

I don't want to stop you, I just thought I might ask if you considered the alternative.

M54 intake manifold to cylinder head 15nm or 11ft-lb , mounting bracket to block :47nm or 33ft-lb , mounting bracket to manifold :10nm or 7ft-lb , do yourself a favour and buy a manual or TIS disc from Ebay for $5 .

Any updates panzercommander? Did you get the job done? Curious, as I am also tackling this job myself this weekend and it seems very difficult without removing the intake on the 3.0 engine. There's just too much crap in the way it seems...

no problem. I finally got the intake off on mine and what a pita this job is. I can't believe they designed it this way... makes me want to sell the damn thing before it fails again. My oil separator is/was plugged solid. I hadn't planned on taking the intake off so I didn't get a replacement gasket for it so reassembly will have to wait until Monday; would hate to have a vacuum leak after all this. I went with the oil separator kit from Bavarian Autosport, though I believe you can buy all the parts elsewhere for less. I pretty much used the write up on E46, Oil Separator and Intake Manifold DIY - E46Fanatics
