Options, opinions and suggestions for angel eyes on 2003 X5

Hi Guyz i recently bought a 2003 X5 with factory Xenon and i would like to update the look of the headlights by installing angel eyes on the headlights or changing the headlights altogether. I would prefer to keep my orignal headlights and just install the CCFL kit. Do u guzs think is it best to remove the lense/wafer and corner amber plastic and the install the headlights clean with just the ccfl and everything else exposed or not to remove the lense/wafer and just install the rings. Plus if anybody has tried some aftermarket headlights which are oem quality that would be great too.
I have tried to contact Dave at custom angel eyes but so far it has been more than 3 weeks and no response.
Also the built date on my headlights is 04/2003 so i think they would not be very difficult to open. (I am getting a BMW technician to perform the surgery)
Thanks in advance for any suggestions / info

Hi Mogm,
I'm in the same boat as you and also want to eventually upgrade my h/lights by removing or exchanging headlight lens and amber corners and throwing in angel eyes. Have you searched ebay and if so maybe post what options you find on here.
I'm sure you'll be able to open the headlight casing with that build date.

Strange how Dave from custom angel eyes hasn't responded to you.

Good move with getting a BMW tech to install although a bit pricey I would think.

Do a search but I second the CCFL ... they are so much more intense than the LEDs.

Here's a thread with weasel doing CCFL on his 4.6 .. maybe you can ask him about his setup.

Hey Mogm,
I came across these on ebay the other day. They look ok and more importantly they are made for RH drive vehicles. You also have a choice of a/eye colour. They are a bit exxy but then again so is the stuff that Dave from Customangeleyes puts out. Good thing is they are plug and play which means you wouldn't have to shell out for that BMW tech to fit for you. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140308777652&ssPageNam e=ADME:B:EF:AU:1123

Weasel will become famous soon enough
I just modded a set I bought from another member and installed them, hooked up the wiring to the ccfl AE's today. look at them here I should be able to wash my filthy baby this weekend and get some good pics with the AE's on, and I just gloss blacked my grilles too.

I'm thinking of clearing out and doing the same mods internally to my OEMs I removed, but spraying the lenses clear... then offering them for sale. Let me know if you may be interested and I would start working on them sooner than later

Hey Weasel,
Given that they are currently for a LH drive vehicle what would have to be done to them to make them comply with us over here on the other side of the pond on the other side of the car ?? I'm just interested as I may be going this route sometime in the future (US purchase).

Hmmm... didn't pay attention to the location. I think the only difference is the blinder plate has the raised/lower sections reversed... and I don't know that I would be able to get them apart enough to swap them around. How bad would it be to have the left hand drive lights in right hand drive world? Enough for legal troubles, or just visibility issues.

Another idea popped into my head... I'll do the lights clear, and offer them to be smoked as light or dark as requested for a couple extra dollars. Ordered to request!

Guys I thought I read on another thread about a switch or something in the actual headlights that was made for this purpsose - adjusting for RH and LH drive.

Let me see if I can find it.

Here it is from the Bi-xenon conversion on a prefacelift on the homepage. I guess it only applies to xenon headlights.

"The original Xenon lights fitted to E53s in the UK have a lever on the Xenon projector that move a plate to blank off the raised kerb-side pattern, thus making the dipped beam pattern a straight line cut-off".
