"I am curious myself how replacing the rear half of the exhaust with 2.5" pipe and magnaflows or flowmasters would sound. I have the same truck and definitely want a loud, low, deep and smooth rumble for my beastly beauty"

Weasel, I am new to the forum and just purchased a used 04 x5 4.4. I am planning this change this weekend as long as everything i ordered shows up. I plan on one minor change, I am going to replace the silencer with a Dynamax ultra flow x-muffler instead of an x-pipe. Then run 2.5 polished stainless out to two 2.5" polished magnaflows. I will take pictures and sound bites if I get it done.

Weasel will become famous soon enough
:welcome: to Xoutpost!

And I will be looking forward to your pics and sound clips. (the site just added the ability to post youtube videos too ) Your X will sound a bit deeper than mine will as you have the valvetronic motor (N62) vs my M62 V8. Enjoy that beast!

Yea, will be waiting for those clips. Is the x-muffler like an x-pipe inside, just incased by steel packing?

Just found my answer. I think that is the way to go. I am getting a little bit of resonance through the floor with my xpipe. Just at a certain rpm.

Unfortunately there is no way to get that signature rumble of a V8 with a i6. One of our fellow board members did add an x-pipe and magnaflows on a 3.0i X5, here's the youtube video of it.
Not bad at all... And from what I could hear it sounds nothing like a Mustang 5.0... maybe even a little bit italian with that staccato rasp... I think I saw this video... Is that MTX5? I know whoever it was had a 5 speed X like mine...
