The difference is huge at idle

CV boots...depends on how you treat them. If you always park with the wheels straight, then they last for quite some times. But if you don't pay attention and park with the wheels cocked most of the times, then they get torn up in no time.

60-70k miles for cv boot is pretty common.

Changed my CV boot at 75K....heard it was common by BMW techs and Forums
Changed my Alternator at 58K.....heard it was not as common, but happens more often than not. Airbag Light Illuminated at 77K.... Heard SRS lights come on for numerous reasons at any mileage. This was hard for me to accept in the beginning considering my last car was an Acura. I suppose its the trade off for luxury and fine engineering. But I dont regret it for one second. |

ok cool, thanks for the info. I wasn't sure if it was norm. I guess something to expect in another 60-70k!

Offtopic: JT, I live in Riverside (Riverwalk) and always go to Corona. I'm surprised I haven't seen your Estoril 4.8is or you haven't seen my LeMans Blue 4.8is around town?
Have you seen a red C4S with black wheels around town? BTW, which mechanic do you use? I have a good one that works on my Porsche and Benz if you need a recommendation.

Every time I do a service on my X I hit the cv boots with some silicone spray. I hit the rear air springs as well. The pure silicone spray helps keep the rubber pliable and soft, rejuvinates it a bit. I'm hoping to get well over 100k on the oem boots, and am at 89k right now with no signs of splits on the original boots.
