So I replaced the water pump... and since this is a comment problem, here's my turn to contribute to a little to this community by posting the quick procedures on this:
1) unbolt two plastic nuts here:

and here

2) Disconnect the water level sensor here

Size: 36.0 KB

4) Lift and take out the whole water container slowly and detach the 3 water pumps (1 for Windshield, 1 for Rear Window and 1 for the Headlight cleaning option) away from the water container

5) This is how the water pump looks like:

6) and this is where the leak is from (the little square opening):

Thanks again to X5 Meister and Weasel for the help on this

Happy to help. Nice write up. Is it to late to include a photo of the new part?

I had this happen on my 5-series. I would place stuff in the rear passenger foot well since it was easy to grab and it would stay place. At random times it would be soaking wet there, and then it would dry out.

When I started tracking it, I swore it was when I went through a big puddle or the car wash and I swore I had a hole in my floorboard. Called the dealer and there was a crack in my vapor barrier.

Anyways, the point of the post is make sure you clean your carpets really well after you get the barrier replaced. I let mine go for a couple of weeks and it started smelling mildewy in there. Had to get out the Little Green Cleaning Machine and attack the carpet.

While you had the Washer Fluid Reservoir out you should have done the Dinan Tower Strut Install.

X5 Meister- The new looks exactly like the original one, and the rubber strainers looks the same as the one on the left you showed here (except the white mesh is longer slightly longer). BTW, I didn't buy the one branded with "BMW", which would have cost 3 times more. It's only US$12.8 and I can afford to have it broken 3 times

jsears- Thanks Jsears. The last "floor" was months ago and it should have been dried by now. I just didn't bother until now. Hopefully I can fixed today.

mtX5- Hahaha... again, it's the carpark for my office's building. It's relatively small with about 50 parking spaces, and only about 5 of them is opened for non-tenant. So it's a pretty "private" carpark and I can just sneak out of the office whenever I want and do the "work" in (with) my car Oh and I also found a hardcore Autoparts supplier for european cars (very rare here) just around the block, even the official BMW stealer here and the Indy workshop I go to get the parts from them (I confirmed they both ripped me off on the parts ), so looks like I will be spending a lot more time in this garage and start doing more DIY (I also ordered the codes scanner last nite :p)

Just noticed a steady drip coming from the same area...that little hole. jst2878, is this what you sealed? I'm curious if it's safe to seal the hole but i imagine it's there for a purpose

I'd like to temporarily seal till i return from travel, then i'll replace the pump.

BTW...very helpful write-up OP
