Hey Dan -

It's official that no Special Colors will be available on the 4.8.
I went through NUMEROUS phone calls.

One dealer even took my deposit, etc and after 2 weeks, he told me that he just couldn't do it. Calls put into BMWNA, Spartenburg, even BMW Germany, etc and at the end of the day, it was a no can do.

I wanted to get a Sterling/Truffle combo myself. I'll still check in with the dealer probably in May but I doubt things will change.

In addition to the bimmerfest dealers check with Alpina22 and see if he can put you in contact with his contacts. I know he can pull strings too (if possible)

Just an update for ya'll.
I was sitting today in the sales managers office and was inquiring about my quest for a special order color X5 4.8. I've been advised by various dealers that it's a NO and one even took my deposit and led me under the impression for 2 weeks it was ordered until he gave me a update 2 weeks later telling me no.

Anyhow, the manager placed a call into his lead over at NJ VPC on speakerphone and it seems it's a flat out NO. I'm ending my quest to order a special order 4.8.....

Sorry to hear, Chef. I wonder why BMW wouldn't do this? May be they have something up their sleeves as far as the 4.8's future is concern.

No worry, may I suggest an Imola Red or a Lemans Blue 4.8 instead??

BMW individual is technically available in the US. But some dealers won't bother with it. I'm not sure it if just a pain for them to get approval from BMW NA or what... Anyway, the point is you may have to check several dealers before you get one will that will do it.

A friend of mine did an individual order on their M3 with a custom color leather and custom color paint... It cost him an arm and leg... but he's stoked with it

I've tried the better dealers around NYC with no luck. I inquired through sales in Crevier and also tried the dealers over at the 'Fest and each one looked into it, etc and told me no.

I'm happy with my 4.4......so if I went the 4.8 route, I would only go with my preferred color or just upgrade in a year or 2 from now. I could understand if they are limiting colors to remain exclusivity for the 4.8 flagship model but it doesn't make sense if they are offering for a upcharge, the lower models in Estoril & Imola and even a *M* color - carbon black.
