Air Con Fan

Hi to all,

This is my first time on the forum, so please bear with me. Two problems I have with my X5 (2001, 4.4V8). The first is that the Push Fan on the air con condenser will not work, there is 12 volts between the two large gauge wires, but the fan refuese to turn and just blows the 50 amp fuse after a while (the fan is drawing load but will not spin). I have noticed that there is a third wire (light gauge) but I have no idea what is is for....any ideas?? The second problem I have had is the auto transmission intercooler pipes have blown off twice....both at the intercooler end, could this be related to the fan not working causing a high pressure build up in that system as well as the A/C system??

Thanks for looking and hope you can help!!
