Wet Floor (not drainage block) Fixed!

Hi all,

My rear passenger floor was wet mysteriously for a few times during last raining season. And thanks for the advices from Weasel (again!) and X5Meister (again!), the water was leaked from the vapor barriers. So I decided to fixed this now before the raining season kicks in again.

Here we go:
1) Follow the excellent tips from here or here (PDF) to remove the door panels.

2) The dark gray piece is the "SOUND INSULATING" barrier.

3) And this is where the water leak comes from, down to the bottom of the door trim panel and into the rear passenger floor.

4) since the "SOUND INSULATING" barrier is still in pretty good consdition, just the glue became harder and not as sticky. I just used some silicons to re-seal the whole lower 1/2 of the barrier.

I checked by pointing the water hose and spray water directly into the window (from the outside!) and found no water leaking thru the "SOUND INSULATING" barrier any more.

There are still some water coming out from the "plug hole" on the door, but the amount is very little and should not be enough to cause the wet floor again.

Hope this helps and thanks to Xoutpost.com again

i tried all fixes and it still leaked so i sealed lower part of door card ,drilled holes in bottom of door card then glued in some plastic pipe from soap dispensor .
the pipe closes against the rubber frame seal and allows water to drain past , instead of getting onto floor .

Just curious, where was it leaking from after sealing the lower part of the door card / sound insulating barrier?

bowden cable
speaker
i watched from inside car with door card and speaker removed whilst someone hosed door and soon the bottom inside door was filling with water
the falling water splashed on pool and through speaker gap
i did this because i had noticed water around speaker

Wow... sounds like you really have a lot of water coming thru the window. Have you looked into the outer weatherstrip (No.3 here)?!

Also, at the bottom of the door, there are two black plastic plugs. Wouldn't punching a hole there or removing it completely would let the water out (instead of glueing the plastic pipe). I was going to do that next if there's still too much water getting into the floor.

A service bulletin exists for this. Maybe you can get coverage.

I'm not sure. But from what I read on this forum, water in the front seat area is usually caused by the sunroof drainage being blocked.

Apparently, there are vapor barriers on the front doors too.

Hello all....I recently got a leak in my 2002 X5 also. Mine is leaking into my drivers side rear footwell right behind the B pillar.
It really looks like it is coming from behind the bottom plastic trim of the B pillar but I'm not sure.
I have looked but have not been able to catch any water running down anywhere. Could this be the same problem and fix??
