In this case, Amperage (CURRENT) is proportional to Wattage! For you kids...POWER = VOLTAGE x CURRENT. Since the load (typically 2 or 4 ohm) and voltage (typically 14.4V with the engine running) are constant, the only way to increase your CURRENT is to pump up your POWER. I agree that quality is MUCH more important than quantity. But you CANNOT tell the quality of an amp by simply looking at its power output capability. You have to look at its THD parameter at the rated power output!
