Keyless Entry

I have a 2001 4.4i X5 and I always have been having trouble with my keyless entry remote. I bought a brand new key for about $200 and BMW programmed it for me and it worked. 2 weeks later I couldn't get my X to open. The open and lock button didnt work and I reprogrammed it again. Then again, just earlier today, its stopped working. Can somebody help me out and help me find some solutionsin fixing this. Thanks

I have been struggeling with the same problem for a month......I reprogrammed numerous times... I have found all the links in the chain..

ignition>>keyfob>>FZVReceiver(located in rear spoiler area)>>control module(located behind glove compartment)

This is at a very high level......so I know it is not my keys and they are charging per the ingition...yada yada....I just ordered a new am/fm/fzv reciver. I am starting with that since I am on my second key. After much research on many other BMW forums....I have found that there are upgraded receivers......they seem to fail....for me my distance was less and less and then even at close range intemitent.....

the new receiver is not cheap but cheaper than the control module....I don't think it is the CM becaue everything else on the cm ....like sunroof/rainsensor/central locking/etc etc...still works......

I will let you know as the receiver comes in tomorrow....keeping my fingers crossed....

Rich

I very well may need one if the receiver does not work.

Kc - Thank you.

Please tell me what that entails....i've learned alot researching this but would also like to be educated as I move along here.

What do I do , pull mine out and send it to you..or do you have new one...

Jeez i feel like it's the first day of kindergarten.. LOL

PM me when you get a chance with detail....don't mean to be sappy..just want to know the process?!!

Best -

Rich

you send payment through paypal, or snail mail, then i send you a new one, you install it, and then go to dealer or indy and have them code it. should cost maybe $50 for coding. then set the car key memory settings, and then re-sync keys. there is no core charge on this module.

Got it....

That is kinda what I thought!!

I will keep that in mind.....I installed new FZV..........so far so good ...keyless entry is working.......I am able to once agiain roll my windows down from the keyfob......etc etc......lets see how long this works.....I believe this was the bad link in the chain..... "but" if for some reason the module shits the bed...I will be purchasing one from you.

Regards,

Rich
