dinan cai

hello again..just need a suggestion...like to get a dinan cai for the x but dinan recommends a software update to along with the cai..do you think it is really necessary or a ploy to get more money for an already expensive cai..i think it is..but being that this is my first bimmer i dont know if by adding the cai that i really need the software update...i have done cai's on american cars with no problem with software issues..any opinions...rob

I have looked into this as well and the dealer will not install the CAI without the SW. They compliment eachother. My next step since i have done the exhaust and the Performance SW already thru them. GL

I just installed the Dinan CAI. I have not done the software upgrade yet, but am planning on it.

It does get confusing, it seems Dinan would have you get the CAI, Throttle Body and the level 3 software and the exhaust for that matter.

I don't plan on purchasing the throttle body, so what software package is needed? Is it needed, or suggested? I have not called anyone there yet, but have just been reading their website.

My car runs great with just the CAI. Without a question a noticeable difference from stock.

For your 01 4.4i with dinan CAI and x-pipe (and you not going to get the dinan TB) no custom exhuast needed.

Thanks Mr! Is the Transmission Software paramount? I'm pretty happy with the way it shifts in "S" mode.

From reading their site, changes the mixture, increases the rev limiter, removes the speed limiter, ups the shift points.

I think that only applies to the 4.8. I have a 4.4 and it goes from stage 1 to 3 and 3a. Seems the 4.6 is the same as the 4.4. Not sure what the OP has.

I looked up the info based on a '05 4.4l, because thats what I have.
