Front end noise, again.
So I have an '00 4.4 that started having front end suspension noise, read up and replaced sway bar end links, problem solved. Couple months later started having a slight clicking noise come from the right front wheel area, has gotten progressively worse. The sound hasn't gotten louder, just more frequent, and it doesn't need to go over a bump like the end links did. You can be driving straight on smooth pavement and it will still make the sound. There is no rhythm, doesn't get any worse when you turn, doesn't matter what speed although it's not loud enough to hear on the freeway. At first I thought maybe a cv joint, but then people told me it would activate or get worse when turning, especially tight, it does not. It is not a clunk or rattle, and sounds nothing like the noise the end links made. Any ideas?? Thanks

I had my cv boot replaced and then I started hearing a click noise. Still have it as they thought it might be the wheel bearing. Didn't want to spend another 500 for it to not be a problem. (they thought is was the axle, it wasn't). Hopefully you get an answer because I might be in the same boat.
Don't get your CV joint or axle replaced unless there is no alternative.

my suspicion is something like a control arm or steering link bushing but as soon as I get it up on a lift I'll let you know.

if the sway bar link has been replaced and it's still good, it should be the control arm. does steering wheel vibrate at certain speed?

no vibration from steering wheel. I got the X off the ground and am fairly certain that the front upper control arm bushing is what is causing the noise, it is cracked and doesn't resist torque from a crowbar on the arm very well. got some new bushings on the way, figured I'd replace them all-upper and lower arm. does anyone know why it seems just as popular to replace the whole control arm vs. just the bushing? less access to a press?

sway bar end link
after replacing a bunch of other stuff, I discovered that the noise was coming from the front sway bar end link, even though I had just replaced them both.
