e38 740 iL instrument cluster

Hi everybody! Is the e38 740iL instrument cluster with part no. 62116914878 will fit my 2000 x5 4.4i with TV monitor? As I refer to the part no. from the VIN of my car, the part no. is 62116914877, what do you think? I am looking for other instrument cluster since mine has some dead pixel on it and the ribbon on the LCD was already worn - out. If yes, do i need to re program it after installation? My x5 was a euro version. Thanks in advance guys!

You'd have to get it reprogrammed at the stealership to sync the mileage, otherwise you'll get a nice little yellow dot next to the mileage saying that it's been tampered with. I'm not sure what year, mileage, how many owners your X has had, but BMW of North America has been doing an exchange/repair on burnt clusters since apparently someone sued do to getting incorrect mileage...something along those lines. You can call BMW, and they'll handle the warrnty exchange on a case by case basis. Some people didnt have to pay a dime, while others had to pay like 50%, which i still a few hundred dollars. Search www.bimmerforums.com as I haven't read into it in a while, so I don't wanna send you the wrong information.

Thanks m5james for your quick reply. Aside from the reprogramming, no other problem will come out? I found a unit that is less than US$100 and with good running condition with few missing pixels which i think I can fix to make all the pixels work.

If your X5 is in the philippines then its an ok deal, but if your X5 is in USA then its a really bad deal. If you are in the USA, it will cost you $100 just for labor and you can get the whole NEW instrument cluster for free. Just call BMW of North America and they will pay for it under the goodwill policy. Just make sure you act as if you are a constant customer at your closest BMW dealership.

heres a link http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...s-labor-7.html

Some people emailed BMW of NA but I called with all the information at hand. Also tell them stuff like you get all your services and repairs done regularly at the closest BMW dealership. I did that and only paid labor, some people paid half of the price of the cluster and labor.

I personally wouldn't lie about if you get serviced regularly there or not. Your dealership is a phonecall away from BMWNA to see if your gonna shoot yourself in the foot or not by saying something that isn't true.

Thanks x5driver214 and m5james. Me too, I just want to have a clean deal. In the Philippines, my x5 is being maintained by an Indie repair shop but very good compared to dealers mechanic and is dealing only on high end cars. This Indie repair man has close ties with one of the dealers here and almost all of the parts are coming from this dealer. The service fee is good much much lower than dealer's, because normally dealer's here don't repair but they change the whole unit just like the last time that I have a leak on my brake hose, one dealer quoted me the whole brake master assembly which is more than P50,000.00, my Indie referred me to another dealer and it only cost me P7,000.00. BTW, I will get this IC through e-bay which is US$105 shipped within USA plus my shipping cost to the Philippines which will cost me P2000 plus. Thanks for the advice guys!

Have you looked at pixel repair instructions? I have a PDF, but it's too large to upload here. I think I got it from www.e38.org

Dear m5james,

Yes, I already read it and tried the contact spray but later found out that the ribbon was already worn-out, so I need to look for a better one. Thanks for your kind reply!

Regards,

I've seen that write up, but the one I have gives tips on how to use a soldering iron to remake the connections. It might be a lot of work, but between purchasing a gauge cluster and having the dealer program it, it depends on how much free time you have I guess.
