Either call AAA or find a metal/wood stick long enough to reach the lock/unlock button thru the cracked door. I would try to "crack" the door between the upper door corner and the B pillar enough to be able to get the metal rod inside the car and reach the switch. Other than that I don't think anyone has a magic method. I could be wrong though

I know this is an old thread but the exact same thing happened to me. I'm currently at my ranch. Out in our wooded area. Keys are locked in the car. I have simple
Hand tools with me. I'm 150 miles from any town or locksmith. Been calling but no one will service this area. If there is a way to get into the back door without damage please send me the information. In going to PM a mod but if anyone has any insight please email me [email protected] |

I know the procedure (certain European BMW Dealers know this) and learned from the Swiss TCS (similar to the RAC in UK or AAA in the US). As this is something that will allow someone to get into an X5, it's not widely disseminated for obvious reasons.

Hi guys
I have had this same problem. Working on fixing number plate lights and put keys on parcel shelf. Like an idiot I only had the boot unlocked and not all the central locking. The boot shut and I was locked out, with keys on display on the shelf. I am gonna order a plastic spare from BMW as this is the cheapest option but it will take a couple days now. If the moderator or someone who knows could PM me with the method of safely getting into the car. I have considered wire coat hangers but I just don't want to cause damage. Even the guy at BMW suggested there was a method to get to the boot but obviously wouldn't divulge it, which is fair enough I guess. It would be much appreciated. I have sworn and cursed all afternoon. |

Good luck, it's very frustrating when it happens. I never did get an answer and ended up using the AA to tow low load the car and family about 100 miles home where I had spare keys........ still, saved on petrol money...

Hey
I never got a reply either. I got the AA out, i specifically asked if they had methods other than bending back the door frame or jimmying down the door as these methods would leave some damage or at least there is an increased risk of damage albeit probably cosmetic. I would rather wait for the spare key i ordered from main dealer. Anyway, AA assured me they had specific patrols that carried the equipment for and were trained in opening the lock. They came out and picked the lock within 20 seconds unlocked the car. I have also got my spare key now so i have learnt from my error. |
