I hooked up my battery charger to the positive terminal on the starter and a ground at I got it charged enough to unlock with keyless entry, so at least I'm in the car now. I need to troubleshoot the lock and see why it won't open with the key in case this happens again. I also need to go ahead and order a new FSR so it will stop killing my battery.

thx for the update, you may need to rebuild the lock cylinder.

I keep my car unlock during the winter time so that if the lock freezes and the battery dies I can still get into the car.

Good feedback on the starter as a +12 connection with hood closed. Smart thinking. Get that lock apart and cleaned might. Or have to replace anything but it is quite an annoying thing to have ONE lock! Especially if you live in a cold climate.

Pull up the diagram for a RHD X5 with your same build date etc...and you can get the 11 digit BMW part nbr info for a keyed handle for the right side. There's probably no issue ordering the lock cylinder either .. which could be coded for the cut of your key ( & VIN)...it would be plug n play and work with your existing keys if you went through BMW.

I'm sure you'd need #9 & #11...the other parts may be reusable from your existing handle.
