Replica wheels weight vs OEM
AFS Wheels on eBay So here is what the math says: AFS states their 20" x 9.5 + Toyos 295-40-20 : 85lb ea. Average 20" tire weigth: 37lb ea. That would make the wheel: 47lb Here is my delimna: I looked at the Buyers Guide for Replica BMW Wheels (on this site) and it shows: Front Replica (i can assume that its a 9.5 if rear is heavier therefore wider) : 15 kg= 33lb That makes a weight difference of 14lb between AFS replicas & X5 world replicas used for buyers guide. Questions: is an 20" OEM really 12.5 kg = 27.5lb? that would make the replica wheel almost twice the weight Where am I off? |

I don't know the weights but I got mine from AFS last week. I got the 20" 9.5 and 10.5s with toyo proxes. They look beautiful and the ride is good. I've driven through rain, dirt, gravel at different speeds and no complaints so far.

did you notice a change in performance, mainly acceleration loss "off the line" due to increased weight?
Any other handling changes such as rotating mass & gyro effect in turns? |

I had the 18" sport wheels before I got these and w/out a doubt you will notice the loss of acceleration..the car just feels heavier, and also the gas mileage goes down as well....in the end I know I have a 3.0 model which obviously is not built for speed and never will be so might as well make it look good |

It does feel a bit slower at start but during highway speeds I don't notice too much difference. Bumps and potholes are more pronounced but that was expected. It does corner better as there is less sway. I had a Lexus before and the ride was softer but I had to take those turns and curves slower.
It's true... I don't expect the 3.0i to drive like my roadster but the wheels do look cool. I've attached pics. There were minor dings on the rim edge from shipping but other than that I'm happy. Last edited by greendestiny; 10-22-2005 at 03:22 PM. |

When I bought my replica 20" wheels, I actually weighed them...by literally putting them on a scale! If I remember correctly, there was no more than a 4.0 lbs difference between the OEM and the replicas. Perhaps 5 lbs at the most on the rears, but they certainly weren't twice the weight! It still adds up to a 20 lbs difference over all 4 wheels, but not too bad.
It actually felt like the truck was faster from a stand still. The 20's have a bigger outer circumference, so technically one whole revolution of the wheel disc should get you a small distance farther than the rotation of a smaller wheel...right?? |

And I bet that 85 pounds is just an estimate of shipping weight. Can't imagine tire and wheel weight that much. |

in my experience replicas will always be a few pounds heavier.
I bought from AFS before they make a good product for the price. not as good as oem but close enough and certainly good enough for street use. I'm tempted to get those even before the 19" michelins wear out. |
