thieves

Hi
I woke up and went to my car today to see that last night someone had stolen the window trim on the left side of the car. WTF would someone take the trim for, just the left was taken and all three window pieces. i first thought maybe they removed it to try and get into the car but why would they take the trim with them, also if they were breaking into the car why take the truck side window trim. V strange, anyone else have this happen to them. I just hope i dont wake up to see the x has been taken.

Maybe that was all they needed to replace parts on their X?

Sorry to hear it. Hopefully nothing else will happen.

That does stick, luckily that is ALL they did, but I would be mad too. I am lucky I park in my garage so my baby is safe at nite.

Do you have salvage yards there in the UK? Might be able to just get the piece you need.

FWIW, I had the passenger side rear view mirror glass taken from my RACE car while it was parked overnight once. That's a lovely thing to have happen...

A year ago someone tried to pry off the shadowline trim on the B-pillar of my X. Happened while I was parked in a remote spot of the parking lot at my local health club. Guess they wanted to "dress up" their own E53. They used a screwdriver or similar but couldn't get it off. Ended up making a mess of the trim piece and it cost me close to $800 to have it replaced as it is not inexpensive and is not a simple "snap off, snap on" type of replacement.

Just glad they didn't try to pry off any other pieces...

One of the problems with BMW in the UK is their policy of not supplying particular spare parts unless you actually own a car with that particular trim.

My wife had the entire front bumper assembly stolen off her E46 M Sport Conv in December '08, and the general belief is that it was stolen to order. We never heard a thing, but the team that removed it knew exactly what they needed to undo and how. The repairer said there are issues where owners of a 'standard' or lower trim version of a BMW want to put a better/higher trim on it but cannot get OEM parts from BMW UK because their car was never made with those parts against that chassis number, so they steal them instead. Insurance costs are the other main reason - steal it, fix yours, and no excess or claim to worry about as the 'donor vehicle' owner gets the bill and insurance record.

Scumbags!!
