What is this part for....

I found this in my rear door pocket today (left from PO) and was wondering what it would be used for.

It's number 16 on the picture.

Part number: 51168408030

RealOEM.com BMW E53 X5 3.0i Center console/decor bottom parts

After seeing this picture i was thinking it would insert into the cup holders spot (over the cup holders, if you dont want to use the cup holders?). Funny that i never saw this in the pocket and i have had the x5 for over a year...lol

BMW calls it a Floor mat velours?

No, it's for sure number 16 on this picture (image).

I have the part in my hand. It's a piece of plastic that has grips on the bottom of it (hold things in place). Kind of a odd shape that was molded.

6.25" L x 3.75" W x .75" H.

Part number on the back is 51.16-8 408 030

German translation to english sometimes get lost somewhere :-)
It is a liner insert for your center console.

LOL...I have some german friend i talk w/ on a techno forum and that does seem to happen a lot...lol, so it goes over the cup holder because the cup holders dont look like the pull out easy. I just got confused by the "Floor mat velours".

thread hijack ,
i just would like the opinion of joe the parts manager on my issue ,
i have an X5 4.4i sport week 46 2001 ,
a dealer recently fitted front right outer cv boot , they fitted part number 31607507403,
that is a inner boot , it squeeks when i turn steering whilst wheels rolling ,
dealer claims parts 31607507402 ( this is same as was already on the car ) would not fit at the larger end ,
they said the same of part 31607565316 although that is made of the same hard plastic as the part which they have fitted ,
dealer told me to contact bmw about the issue , i did this and as usual , bmw are not able to answer the question .
have you ever experienced any issue with cv boots for the X5 .

Hi,
31-60-7-507-403 is approximately 5 mm larger at the large end an 3mm larger at the small end than the 31-60-7-507-402. It's also about 4cm taller as well. Without seeing your vehicle it would be hard for me to understand why the dealer didn't install the 402's. We have more inventory of the 402's than any of the other CV boot kit numbers. After speaking with one of our Master Technician's and my parts back-counter guys they informed me that we have not encountered any issues with the outer boot kit's 31-60-7-507-402. I hope this information was useful.

thank you for reply
403 is for the inner cv
402 looks exactly like the original parts fitted on outer cv.
i can only assume that the tech has made yet another stupid mistake on my car.
i think i`m done with bmw .
always get stupid excuses from dealers and absolutely no help from bmw UK .

I'm sorry,
It wasn't my intention to get you upset with BMW. I simply wanted to supply you with the best information I had available.
I would give the service manager a call and have him take a look at your vehicle. If something is wrong I would believe they would do their best to make it right.

I dont think the factory boots fit very well, and the material is too rigid for long term use. I solved the problem by installing CVB boots made by EMPI. Better quality and more flexible.
