let me guess: sport package with at least 18'' wheels? I feel the same, but don't worry, it wont come apart, read my write up about taking my X for off-roading. The truck is robust, but obviously not made for rough roads, so it's normal to feel it not at home outside the paved roads....

U guessed right. Sports package indeed. Do they all sound like that when they hit the bumpy roads or a bump. How awful! I would have imagined the Sport package to be even firmer on the bumps than the other non sports. Where can I find your off roader write up?

Sport Package is indeed firmer, with anti-roll bars, and that's exactly why they feel as such on bumpy roads. Serious offroaders have a big traveling distance for they wheels so that they keep contact with the surface on tough rocks, and they have a thick profile (minimum 65, while I have for example a low profile tire of 55)... all those parameters give you the ride u described..
Check my thread http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...-write-up.html It's funny how i used almost your exact same words!!

Three spoke steering wheel, door handles from the same color as the body (not plastic), the window trims are piano black (shiny ones like the piano touches, not plain plastic), the side lights are clear white not orange, anti-roll bars (can't see that easily), if 3.0 it should also have 18'' wheels (i don't know about 4.x ... ), the exhaust is dark titanium not aluminum (again, depends on engine and year) and the roof from inside is black, not from the color of the seats... those are the ones I know

Youu sway bar links/chopsticks may need attention, maybe even just tightening as someone told me, sounds like a sack of cuttlery clunking around when i go over bumps etc....get no juddering on braking so don't think it is brake calipers of bushes....
