This weekend I am replacing idler pulleys, water pump, thermostat, maybe the belts fun, fun, fun!!!

Did you know that psychiatrists charge 250/hr. BMW mechanics charge around $100... I don;t even know what my point is supposed to be.
what point?

I agree with MD et al. it's your call. Short term it can kill ya, but what will you have vs what will you get and at what price? Strictly a personal decision and you should not worry what others think.

I have spent the last 10 days in a Durango, Passat and an X3. Can't wait to pick up the X5 monday. (can't believe I sold my 2nd car the week before the accident) Even though she now has a new door, bottom sill and some new paint, she will be sticking around. Although the X3 was impressive. Just like an X5 but smaller.

FWIW

Applying the brakes in the Durango at 95 convinced me to never go 95 in a Durango again!!! Corners: no way.

Passat hit 120 and holds speed but loose. NEVER do 120 in a Passat!! Corners: hmm ok.? (we are in the middle of nowhere desert, ok.)

X3 smooth and tight. Corners: fine.
