Whistle HELP - Acceleration Question

Please explain to me how a 345hp HEMI powered Durango stays dead even in a 0 - 90mph race with my stock 3.0. I've read the Motor Trend Truck Trend reports and I know that when I raced the Durango today that we should be equals to 60mph and through the traps (or the road equivalent thereof), but I'm afraid I don't understand why. I'm not complaining, it was a most gratifying experience to not only beat him off the line, but then to keep him the same distance behind me all the way to 90 where I backed off and enjoyed it.

Of course I'm sure that when he retells the story my 3.0 will mysteriously become a 4.4...

Anyhow, with a curb weight of only 300lbs more than the X5, his power to weight ratio far exceeds mine. Why the even performance???

So many X factors, pardon the pun. Hayaku should chime in here and hook it all up, but I'll tell you that you can have all the horses in the world, but you've gotta have torque for true power and a transmission and tires that can deliver that power efficiently to the pavement. Your X5 even with the straight six has a superior transmission and footprint to that Durango.

Because it’s a Dodge. There is more to it then just a power to weight ratio. You have inflated HP numbers, drive train loss, power curve, gearing and proper transmission tuning (shifting).

kind of funny you mention that. I posted in another thread that some guy was trying to mess around with me earlier today in a Dodge Ram with the Hemi. After a couple of accelerator pops...he realized that he did not stand a chance. There is a huge difference in 345 Dodge HP and 340 BMW HP. Needless to say it was so bad, I dont think he had any idea what he was up against.
