starting problem

Hi All,

this might be kind of general, but I'll give it a shot anyway.

2003 3.0 X5 had trouble starting out of the blue leaving a store parking lot last night. No warnings before that. Finally got it started and made it home ok. As soon as I turned it off in the garage, I started it again just to see if it would. It did. This morning however, I tried it and it wouldn't start. It cranked but wouldn't turn over. The battery is about six months old and the alternator was just replaced last month. It still doesn't start.

Does this sound like a starter gone bad? It doesn't seem to be the battery. The lights and everything are fine. What else should I be looking at? I do have a third party extended warrenty. I never ever take the vehicle to a dealer unless under warrenty, and I'm almost hesitant even then.

Thanks for your advice.

MG
