Additional info
This does not answer your question, but is some additional information.
The extended BMW warranty gives you an additional 2 years from the end of the factory warranty, but limited to 100K miles. The factory warranty has already expired based on mileage, so you would have something less than two years left on the extended warranty since the in-service date was probably in 2005. I assume the extended maintenance contract is for an additional two years? I purchased this BMW contract this summer for $2,100. How much time is left in the contract? |

I'm not sure because the owner isn't sure. I'm not even sure if he's serious about selling it. And...he's asking way above high private party book. He basically said he wanted to cover what he owed. Not gonna happen when you owe $3k more than the car is worth unless you find a sucker.

I would think that it would add some value but not the full value. I know that at the end of your purchase time you can have your vehicle declared a certified preowned and pay $2500. The would be the additional 2 years and mileage in the warranty. The maintenance agreement is now selling at my local dealerships for $1600. I think this is due to the economy and trying to sell more of them.
Depending on the in-service date on the vehicle will determine how much time you really have but you would have about 41k in mileage, as stated by BMWvoid. In order to see if this is worth anything extra I would see when the last service was done, check the indicator bars to see where they are at and also find out when the brakes where last done. I have had my brakes replaced twice under my original warranty...maybe due to my driving habits...or maybe not and am glad I have the extra maintenance in case I need another set in the next couple of years. Hope you find this helpful!

It really depends on how long (time, not mileage) is left from the warranty, and what condition the individual SAV is in. You can have 40k miles left on the warranty, but when it expires in a year, and you only drive 10-15k per year, 40k warranty doesn't mean much to you.

I agree with both of you. I've decided to pass but you both raise very valid points and concerns.

Be careful on extended warranties. For example, I've purchased several the last few years. If they say it's a 4/75, they are referring to four years and 75,000 TOTAL miles in addition to what's currently on the odometer. So, if you have 44K, you can run up an additional 31K. Period. Youalso will need to have 1 month and 1,000 miles left on the factory warranty OR you pay a penalty. However, there are warranties tha don't play these games and will offer a true 4/75. You need to really read the fine print.
On my 05 M3C, I purchased a 6/100 for $3001. At that time, I had ~45K and the vehicle was only 3 years old. So, for $3001, I got a warranty that was really for 3 years and 55K.

hardly any value at all. i would be more concerned with how it was treated and if the maintenance was kept up. there are lots out there with extended warranties, so u could just buy a different one.
then again, if the maintenance is kept up, why would you need one? especially if you DIY! |

Which dealerships in your area are offering the extended maintenance for $1600? I am looking to purchase an extended maintenance plan and the dealerships around me are selling for over $2200. |
