Not surprised at all; people do hit and runs in US parking lots all the time.

I try to park in a faraway spot in the mall but it doesn't always work

What i find no matter how far away you park, it neevr fails that someone will park right next to you... the logic behind it is because when people park they use your car/vehicle as a guide to if they are in the parking stall.. not looking at the lines... that's why people love to park in between cars... for most "common" drivers it's a blessing to find a spot like that... NOOBS
