The symptoms cannot be reduced by a 30 second trans memory reset. Nonsense. Transmissions program updates so far have not fixed this problems either. Just check all the posts. It is an intermittent problem by definition. The information on the link to westside transmission sounds insane at best. Fluid changes every 12,000 to 15,000 miles. Why not every 100 - 150 miles? The 2 questions that revived this post were whether an actual repair yet exists and how will it be covered. Last edited by X5 Meister; 03-31-2010 at 03:05 PM.

so I took my '05 4.4 in for this issue today, as well as a leak caused by a dried up oil filter seal (which I could have replaced myself).
they reset, reprogrammed the trans and told me this will solve the problem. Im skeptical though. We'll see what its like in 6 months. Anyways, Im on extended warranty and this isnt covered. Just in case anyone else is thinking of taking it in total cost for the reprogram was about $400.

What does it say on your invoice for the work? Is there any mention of an SIB, or a programming version, etc?

I too had this issue after purchasing the X. I also had problems with the car decelarating down hills. Yay... I had to press the gas to go down hills or it would slow down. Had the software updated before warranty was up. This helped the downshifting down hills, but not for the lurch. I can almost anticipate the lurch now and release the gas before accelrating too quickly so the lurch is less severe. Not sure if this has anything to do with it? I also notice that I have no lurch when adding Chevron Techron Feul System cleaner to the tank. It's the bottle that cost $12/treats 20gals. I put it in every 5k miles. Anyway, I try to make complete stops when ever I can to try and avoid this lurch. This is another PITA reason to trade-in my car!

My car has the same problem and it usually does it on the 1st shift to 2nd gear after the car has been sitting for about over 3-4 hours. If I let the car idle for over 5 minutes, it goes away. If I didn't warm up the car before driving, I can anticipate the slam with off throttle to avoid it. It only does it once and usually during the 1st shift to 2nd gear.
It does the same thing (the slam) if I am going up hill and slowed to about 3 mph and tried to accelerate fast.

I took my X5 into the service department at a local dealer in SoCal (Rusnak) and was informed this 'slamming issue' was a software problem and they would be happy to reset if for me -- well that was about 6 months ago and the problem still persists. It has happened in both the sport mode and regular drive mode, however, it does happen more frequently in sport. Any solutions to this issue would be helpful...
