No over lapping or cutting. I did use a hair dryer however.

I fixed mine in 10 mins and it's 90% better to the point its not noticeable unless you really look close. It looks like part of the wood grain.

I have a clear paint pen, you can use a touch up paint brush as well. You paint the cracks, then right away work on the clear lacquer with you finger, paint one more time and work in again or just wipe over it with your finger. Have a paper towel in your other hand and wipe off the access right away.

Try this before you go sanding or replacing panels and see how you like it. I did this on both my X5's...dark and light wood with excellent results.

This gave me an idea. Maybe wipe the trim with a thinned polyurethane/mineral spirits mixture to allow it to flow into the cracks easily - then wipe the residue off with pure mineral spirits. Hmmmmmmm

No need to thin it out...just use a good clear urethane.

Wow. That made a huge difference! I dipped a folded paper towel in a little bit of "Helmsman Spar Urethane" - applied it over the cracks and worked it in to the cracks with my fingers. then wiped the surface clean with some mineral spirits.

This looked like hell before. Now not so noticeable - good enough for a 10 year old car!

^Sweet. Glad you found a work around.

My OCD would not allow that to fly though. I'll stick with wraps... or new OEM trim. Those little hairline cracks drive me up a wall. I just plunked down $30+ for a new hood emblem because of tiny little spider cracks on the current one. Stupid OCD problems... keep costing me money.

It looks pretty darn thick to me. I wonder if they could be stripped with paint-stripper (without harming the veneer) and refinished.

What about re-spraying the wood in black? do you think it will crack again underneath? has anyone tried this?

If you prep the original and fill the cracks you might be okay. But there is always the possibility of it cracking again.

Looks damn good though.
