Outdoor Temperature Display - Problem

I have done a search and haven't seen anything that addresses this.

My 2001 4.4i outdoor temperature display has suddenly changed the format in which it displays the temperature. Up until today the temperature would read in this format:

+ 75.0 F

and now it simply shows up as 75 without the + or the F or the decimal point. Any ideas on what could be going on?

Yes, the reading is accurate in farenheit. When I switch to celsius the digits remain correct but the decimal is off.

For example if the outside temperature in farenheit is 70 degrees (21.1 degrees celsius) the display will show '70' in farenheit and '211' in celsius.

Normal. Indicates at 3 C (which is around 37 F)

I don't think so because celsius displays three digits and farenheit only two. It makes sense that if the pixels were dead I would only have two digits in each mode correct?

Weasel will become famous soon enough
The outside temp sensor is just a simple thermal resistor (ntc). The instrument cluster reads the resistance through it and determines the temp reading... there isn't a problem with the sensor in your case. The instrument cluster may have "forgotten" how to display it, and may need recoding. If you know anyone with a GT1 with older software like DIS V43 they can do it, otherwise it may not bother you enough to pay the dealer for recoding (if that is even the problem).

Can someone advise me where the sensor is please? Mine was showing as 45C the other day when it was only around 27C.
Me thinks it might have been moved closer to an engine heat source.

This sounds plausible. I'll search to learn more about 'GT1' and see what I can figure out from there. Thanks.
