What is this Plug for?

I am in the process of replacing the Coolant Reservior (Typical leak around the seam) and noticed a free plug and mounting bracket located just behind the reservior (noted in the photo).

Any idea what this is for? My assumption is that what ever uses the plug probably mounts on the bracket.

BTW: This is a 2001 4.4i

that plug is commonly found on diesel varients of x5's, but when any x5's are equipped with any of the following option codes, the plug will be present. SA220, SA248, SA261, SA265, SA461, SA496, SA522 and SA533.

The plug is used for auxiliary heating system. Also known as the Webasto Thermo Top C/Z diesel/petrol. You basically remove the extra nipple on the fuel pump, and install a new fuel line to the Thermo Top C/Z and install the wiring harness from the trunk to the engine. The Climate Control Module is also replaced. Several cooling hoses are replaced to connect to the Thermo Top C/Z. The system works by burning diesel/petrol and heating the coolant circuit. The retail price for this retrofit is $1,694.91 and is no longer available. On diesel varients, there is a plug by the battery box for remote control operation. On vehicles with Board Monitor, a coding retrofit allows a new menu to set timing for operation. Other options to operate are by Telephone call.

Yes.I have this system from new but I hardly use it as my car is always garaged.
Part of this system is also a small exhaust pipe under the car ,directly under the drivers side.So the Diesel X5 is the tops!Has 3 exhaust outlets
