My car is at the dealer for a few days, so I'm not able to provide any pictures now, but I spoke with the mechanic and he said that the heater is installed inside the 1-4 CCV (the one external) that was probably modified in some way to get the heater in (drilled?). I'll get you some pictures later, that I will probably post on the CCV cleanout thread instead of this one.

Please understand that the external CCV valve is part of the hose. So you mean the heater is somehow attached to the hose? I'm also curious how he tapped the power to the heater, etc. Did he explain the rationale behind this? Was their a new SIB issued or something (any such thing on your invoice?)? I can't wait for the photos.

Finally solved the cold start problem by replacing the MAF sensor. A jobber air filter installed by the previous owner of my car did some damage to the MAF. My engine never run as well.

I've read somewhere that there is no DISA unit in a 4.4 (V8), true?

Hi,
Was it the DISA unit and not the intermediate levers and the shafts which caused the cold-start rough-idle problem in your car ? Thanks |

mikem0re I hereby nominate you for photos of the year. Very very very interesting stuff. Now we need to reverse engineer what the hell they exactly did, but this is way above and beyond the recommendations on the SIB.
If your acoustic cover is back on then don't worry about it, however if it is still off then would you mind snapping a few more photos showing just where the wire starts and finishes including shots of the label on the wire. Also is that wire going to the part labeled heater? It's a little hard to tell in the photos. It would be ideal if you could remove the CCV valve from the cover and photograph it from all angles and show what that heater looks like, etc. Also a couple of wide shots would be great too, showing the differences between the two sides of the engine. Great job again. Thanks. Last edited by X5 Meister; 03-24-2010 at 09:32 PM. |
