Electric Memory Seats

Hi,
A couple of days ago my drivers side memory seal module stopped working.
Looking at other peoples problems, i checked all the fuses etc.
I then stripped the unit down, checked all the wires etc, all looked fine.
I then removed the passenger side unit and plugged it into the wiring harness on the drivers side, everything worked fine, so it must be the control unit.
It has 3 small relays attached to a printed circuit board which controls your seat, steering, mirrors etc, i am sure one or more of these are the problem. As they are attached you cannot replace them so i am now looking for either a used module or a brand new one from my local dealer, how much !!!!!!!!!!!!

This is a seat module for the 3-series, but, by chance does it look similar?

What about the relays. Are they the Tyco or Siemens V23084-C2001-A303? I have tons of those relays and replace them on the BMW GM5 module all the time. They are hard to desolder, but, after replacing hundreds it's not a problem.

I am having the same problem with my memory seat module that many others have had. First symptom was intermittent steering wheel retraction. Second symptom was that the memory function for the seats failed, and would not be re-programmed. Finally, the seat has stopped moving.

I can hear the relays clicking, so power is getting to the module, and the switches are engaging the relays, but the current isn't being directed to the motors. I am wondering if this is a microcontroller problem, or if there is a failure point in the power side of the circuit.

Has anyone tracked down the circuit diagram for the e53 power seat memory module? That would help. If it is a software glitch, or a discrete component, I would prefer to fix/replace those than buy a new unit.

Don't remember if I found a diagram here in the forum or not. I had every intent of cracking open the old module to look inside, but ... never got the time to do so. It's a pain to get to. If the seat is still moving, remove the seat. Else, you will have to destroy part of the cover to get to it. Let us know if you get into the module and find something.

If you can ear the relay click, that means that the logic (communication) is working. It must be burnt contacts on the relays, or a corroded connector. Take a look in case you see something obvious.

Like scottjoh said, he can supply supply you relays if yours are the same model as he listed. I bought from him relays to fix my door lock module (GMV) on my E46 and now the actuation is so much stronger. Contacts were burnt.
