I seem to remember something like that on my old volvo, when I got boot kits from dealer, they had grease packs with same stuff for inner and outer. Maybe heat + age from being closer to trans/engine ?

What kind of lubricant is it, as I need to replace it now?
I guess I can just use the "standard" cv joint grease.....the service manual just refers to it as "cv joint grease", like it does for the outers. Mahalo.
