GPS UPGRADE TO E53 WITH 16.9 & TV, POSSIBLE?
My friend has an 02 E53 without NAV, he has the 16.9 colour screen with TV. Is his car prewired for the MK III unit? Thanks in advance for any advice...

Upgrading from a MkIII to a MkIV is a straight forward plug-n-play swap.
An E53 without nav from the factory does not have the necessary wiring harness to support the installation of the nav system. A retrofit is possible (and is documented here on the site), but it entails having to run in a new wiring harness from the dash back to the rear of the vehicle (which entails removing most of the interior of the X5) - see http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/all...system-x5.html

Quote:
all x5's with factory option 602 TV Function are not pre-wired for Navigation. If he would like to install navigation, he must purchase the retrofit harness for TV to NAV computer. and then the NAVI takes over control of the Board Monitor. |
