My initial impressions of the Continental Extreme Contact DWS's are positive. Looks wise they are very aggressive, and more importantly my seat of the pants for the short time they have been on is also positive. The sidewalls feel communicative, and they don't feel like they are rolling over during cornering. Keep in mind that I've only got 30mi on them so this is just an initial impression. With the price, and the mileage warranty I give them a thumbs up so far.

Purchased some Dunlop Sport Maxx RFT 275-40-20 front and 315-35-20 rear from Tirerack.com. Just had them installed today. These tires are great!

I have been reading all the posts on the different tires and thought I would go with the Conti-DWS all around because of the winter snows here, but alas Tire Rack only carries the 255/50x19's for the fronts. Tire Rack says they don't have a 285/45x19 for the rear tires. I normaly switch wheels in the summer and put on my 20"s, but the tires on those wheels are too worn to drive on. I've decided to get rid of those wheels and stick with the OEM 19"s with an all-season sporty tire, if there is such a thing. Anyone have any mileage on the Toyo Proxes ST II's? I'm only getting 17/20K out of my tires, Summer (Mich/Dia) and Winter (Pire/Scorps). I may try the o neg alignment this time. Any comments or suggestions?

My initial impressions were good, and after about 500mi on them I am a supporter of this tire. They have extremely quiet roadnoise, good feedback, and so far I'm very happy with these tires. The treadwear gets comments from people as well LOL which is a very small bonus. The price, treadwear warranty, and the way that these tires feel under normal driving are excellent in my opinion and I'd recommend them highly.

I have not used these in a spirited fashion only because I can't stand the way the 4.8is handles in the corners anyways - I'll save that for the M5. For these tires, I'll be sure to treat them gingerly in order to prolong their life as much as possible.

X5 Tires

Thanks for the input Mitch. I will look into this this fall. I did find a pair of Michelin 315/35/20 used on Ebay that have almost the same tread as the front pair (60%), so that should get me through the summer and postpone selling the wheels for now. I wouldn't get much for them anyway even though they are in "like new condition". At $300.00 for the pair off Ebay, it makes me think I should be buying take-offs for a hell of alot less money rather than buy new ones. There are some great deals on Ebay!!

Bumping this thread to see what the fellas on the DWS's think now that some mileage has accrued. I had Diamaris, but a defective set led me to purchasing Yoko Advan S/Ts (which arent bad, ride is harsher and a bit noisy when compared to the Diamaris). I've also tried the proxes, but they ride even worse than the yokos do.

Got the DWS last month and i'm pretty happy with it, its quiet, responsive and great wet weather tire. Will find out how it fares for southern VA weather slick roads.
I have one problem though; not to hijack this thread, steering wheel feels heavy on right. Its not drifting nor pulling but just heavy on right, have to hold wheel slightly to left. X tracks straight on most road even when wheel is let go. Of course most roads are inclined to the shoulder and over period of time/distance or how much incline is on road, X will start to drift to right side.
Alignment was done at dealership and was noted all green but heavy on right before alignment. No suspension suspected defects and one alignment shop said switch the front tires/wheel left->right, said its strong possibility to be the problem.

Has anyone experienced/done this ? I'm only running 18".
Thx.

For some reason my "quick reply" button isn't working.

To E55AMG- you said you had the Toyos but weren't happy with the ride, road noise? My Yoko's on my 4.6 have about 18k miles on them and the truck sounds like a lifted bogger on 32's. I was about to pull the trigger on a set of Proxes ST2's. Were your's the earlier version or the ST2's? Thanks for any feedback!

-Ben
