Lots of post about the flush or not to flush. Here is a thread where the X owner flushed the fluid and seemed to get good results.
http://www.Xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...nderneath.html Most posts say that changing the fluid is just a band aid fix and you will need to replace the tranny anyway. Its also said that the fluid is lifetime for the tranny. But lifetime seems to be identified as 100,000 miles. My tranny was just rebuilt with 75,000 miles. I say flush it and see what happens. Let us know what the results.

Hi, Thanks for the quick response. My tranny doesnt whine like a S/C but sounds more like a loud judder/thudding while lightly accelerating. I guess I will get a full tranny fluid change and see what happens. Well def let you guys know. Any more input is much appreciated.

You know, same story over here, could it be some how electronically related?
I getting some kind of slipping/shuddering feeling while slowly acceleration and it almost always happens @40km/h,also when cornering @40 km/h,but it doesn't happen every day. Tranny is rebuilt less that 4000 km ago.and I brought it to get it rebuilt because of that shuddering, from beginning it was at least not that strong, now is getting stronger.Tranny is under the warranty for another year and a half,so I hope if it goes south it will be sooner that my warranty expires. But...another thought...could it be differential related, cause I remember one guy in my previous thread wrote that a friend of his had the same symptoms on his 3 series and after a differential fluid change the shudder was gone.

I had the exact same problem. A rebuilt tranny sorted it out. I spoke to the builders and the said that they'd check out the oil and be able to tell if an oil change would fix it. The oil was bay dirty and there was a lot of build up on the friction plates. These guys seemed to know what they were on about so I agreed to a rebuilt tranny. I paid £1280. I wish I'd done it earlier as I had the problem all while I had the car and got it fixed 2 weeks ago. I sold the car today though. :-(

Changing the tranny fluid and filter is always a good idea. If it was never changed, then it is low on fluid right now. If the fluid level is low you will certainly have driveability symptoms and issues. One more note, there is no such thing as transmission "Lifetime Fluid" despite what BMW says. All fluids or oils get oxidized, contaminated and undergo molecular change due to heat, moisture and use.

Hi my x had similar symtoms at 150000 miles and i did a reset which was a total success until now ( 5000 miles later).iirc the procedure was to turn on key to position 2 and hold gas pedal full on for about 25 seconds then turn key off then start and drive normally .I havent had the harsh downshift since the reset.
