You would be surprised if you saw some of the x5's i've seen at insurance yards...unless something landed on top of the car falling from the sky...

IS THIS CORRECT? THE DSC IS TURNED OFF WHEN YOU SEE THE 4X4 SIGN LIGHTEN UP ON YOUR DASHBOARD. WHEN THE DSC IS ON, YOU DON'T SEE ANYTHING ON THE DASHBOARD

Got to be tires- EVEN WITH APPARENT GOOD TREAD- My o5 Ody did the same thing on the freeway in the rain only the front end lost traction despite 3mm of tread (Napa has a nice depth guage) - The miles were at 40K- It has never done this since with new tires. While this is not directly related, note the braking in this video in the wetr with 1.6mm (legal) tread depth and 3.0mm depth. Here

consumers reports has been pointing out for years the dangers of driving in the rain with tires that are only 50% worn...
let alone that the rubber hardens with time. with those all season tires in the winter, you don't stand a chance...

Gotta love BMW being cheap and not installing LSD's anymore, unless its an M vehicle. Its been said already, but I'd be taking a closER look at the inner edge of the tire. With the staggered setup in my 7, I've gone as far as paying to have the tires switched from the left and right rear rims to increase there lifespan since it had the same negative camber.
