so im 10,000km away from 100,000.i have had the x5 for 1 year(75,000 when i bought it)what im wondering is,is it worth it to do the 100,000km checks myself or just pay the price at the dealer?im a helicopter mechanic with full use of the hanger,so i have lots of room and time.it might actually be fun..the truck is a 2006 4.4i.thanks for any input..

Hey, Alberta:

I know it can be frustrating when you don't get a response as quickly as you'd like. Sometimes people jump all over a subject, other times they don't. I can't really answer your question. But from what I've seen, the maintenance done by the dealers is REALLY expensive for what you get. Looking over the maintenance schedule, there's a lot of "check this fluid" and "check that warning light" kind of thing, although when you get to the "maintenance II" it also includes filters and plugs. If you've got any mechanical skills, you can more than likely do most if not all the scheduled maintenance items yourself. The only "gotchas" I can see from the list might be to read the diagnostic system and perform battery load test. There's info on here as to how to reset the service indicators as well when you're done with all the goodies.

I'm sure that since I've offered my 3 cents, others will chime in as well. There's folks who are EXTREMELY knowledgable on here. I'm very much a newb:-)

Hope this helps a little...

Marc

Ah a Canadian, hello there here is some stuff I would recommend

- Change out the spark plugs
- Flush the brake fluid (Every 2 years)
- Flush the coolant
- Inspect brake pads (At 100,000KM I would probably go ahead and change them out)
- Check the tires (Replace if needed)
- Install new cabin filter
- Install new engine air filter
- Replace power steering fluid (Turkey blaster method)
- Install new fuel filter

So many other things that I cant think of right now, good luck!
