AMG is Mercedes version of BMW's M series. MB E55AMG is the M5 competitor, the C55 would be geared for the M3 and so on. It gets almost as messy as the Apple vs. PC debate. Both do their job well though. The new E55's are just monsters. However, the BMW's always seem to handle better.

AMG, as in the Mercedes-Benz tuner, THIS, as in a sarcastic challenge to AMG tuned Mercs. Bring on the AMG's!

Not me.... I think the AMG thing has gotten a little diluted since it was bought and brought in-house to M-B but I wouldn't race an E55 in an E46 M3. I think the dude with the plate could be humbled in short order unless he's got some goodies under his hood.

When I was at California Speedway with Hayaku, there was a guy in a S55 and when that thing came around the front straight, it absolutely screamed. It sounded like an oldtime muscle car.

MB/AMG have boiled down to just muscle cars; they can haul ass goin straight, but it pretty much ends there. If the M5 was a 14.5 second car, I'd probably still take it over an E55 just because it handles so fantastically.

AMG's have lots of muscle but only come in an auto. Not for me. Quarter mile times don't mean anything to me. I've seen a mini-van do sub 11 - doesn't mean I want one.

My buddy just got a 2006 E55 AMG and took it to the drag strip tonight and ran a 12.44 1/4 mile. That mother is fast, very fast. You actually feel G forces when you hit the gas, and cars just dissapear behind you.
