ARE REPLACEMENT INTERMEDIATE LEVERS DIFFERENT

Based on the SES light coming on for a few days then going out (no misfiring or rough start I could notice), and a stored fault code my 2004 X5 4.4 has been diagnosed by the dealer as needing replacement intermediate levers. Of course my car is a couple of months beyond Certified warranty and at 50,000 miles

My question is are the replacement levers being sold now redesigned or manufactured to better quality control than those originally equipped?

In other words, can I expect the replacement levers to fail in another 50K miles?

thanks,

JimL

The fact that they failed in 50k miles is baffling to me. I am constantly reminded on this site by stories like this that BMW could learn a lesson or two from the Japanese in quality control.
As for the replacement parts I am not sure if they have been improved upon.

^ more like honda control

A temporary rough cold start on an 04 is better than a stuck accelerator on a 2010

Not saying that BMW is better in quality, but the recent news hitting shows that the Japanese aren't the "quality kings" as people perceive them. A company can build up a good reputation by sweeping problems under a rug.

the first time you replace them on a 2004 MY, the car may be fine for 1 year, the next year, they will act up again and BMW will parts warranty them, then the next year, they will replace both cylinder heads. several 2004 engines have recieved cylinder heads after multiple intermediate lever replacements.

Mine is in right now for the 2nd replacement. They told me that this replacement is a different part number than the first levers. The first replacement of the levers and shafts was a couple months ago. How long do I need to go before they do the heads?

Personally, I see the IL issue as an inconvenience. Turn off, restart and it's alright. Otherwise, wait until the car warms up a bit.

Unintended acceleration is in a different league, IMO.
