What is this wire?

On my 2003 X5 3.0, I have the notoreous rattle in the back tailgate. In trying to determine where it was coming from, I removed the trim around the upper tailgate window. I noticed a wire (see brass looking connector) that was hanging loose, and wondring if I disconnected it somehow when removing the trim (the top protion of the window). My first thought was that it was an antenna for an option I may not have.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Antenna Cable GPS (#5)?:

RealOEM.com BMW E53 X5 3.0i Antenna line, Audio/Video

However, in this diagram (assuming its the same #5) it doesn't look like it should be at that location. You can see there are some free cables that might be what you're looking for but they aren't labeled.

Did you just try pulling the wire as hard as you can to see what will happen?

Thanks twinspoppa. I didn't think of going to realoem so appreciate that. I will hunt in there. My end of the cable in the picture is female and the realoem diagram shows male. not sure if thats just a drawing error, but none theless your point is right I should look in there to see.

MTX5 I agree. From the sound of tailgate noise this definetly isn't it, and yes I have check the write ups and I am following those, this just came up during the noise investigation.

X5 meister, not sure why i would do that. If the cable is connected somewhere, where its even harder to get to than i have just created another problem.

Appreciate the help

I was just joking around. In no way would I want you to do that! I actually spent a fair amount of time looking for that wire for you. I think twins is probably right, though I had originally thought it might be related to a Sirius setup if you have/had one.

X5 meister, understand. Some folks in this site are too sensitive, angry at times with questions they feel are stupid and thus have made me leary and cautious in understanding where folks who reply are coming from.
