Transmission Solenoid Valves

Has anyone changed these on their transmission? I'm having issues with my 04' 3.0L X5 (Auto Tranny). When I put the car in reverse and then in drive I get hesitation and it revs when I hit the gas but doesn't move forward. It only dose it on cold starts after it sits for a couple of hours and not when its warm. The dealership took a look at it and reprogramed the transmission module and it did't help. I'm taking it back next week. I've read on here that the TCC solenoids I believe is what they are called go bad and can cause this issue. From what I found out they prevent the tranny from building pressure and causes the tranny to stall. Has any one had luck after replacing these?

I've had my valve body serviced before but I didn't have the issue you're experiencing. There's a way to test the solenoids to determine if they are bad or not. I'd have to look back at my notes to find that information. Alternatively, you can look for a transmission shop to help diagnose your problem. The transmission in our particular model x5 are made by GM and are similar to the transmissions found in the Cadillac SRX. A reputable trans shop helped me diagnose and repair my issue. The dealership wouldn't do much besides offer to replace the transmission.

Yes, they can prevent the transmission from building pressure, but they are only one of many components that can cause this. Could be the pump, a blocked passageway or orfice, a seal, an actuator, etc. It isn't reasonable to start replacing solenoids in the hope of winning the diagnosis lottery. Agree with CharliehustleX5 that you should get a diagnosis from a shop familiar with this transmission, not the dealer.

To the OP, has the dealer changed out the fluid and filter? Or did they not due to the mileage being under 100k?

They only re-programed the EGS unit, which didn't help. The said they got codes back for the solenoids but would't replace them. They said BMW would't let them the change the solenoids and the only thing they could do was to replace my whole transmission for 6K. I found a transmission shop close by that works on BMW's and is going to diagnose the issue for me. If it's the solenoids they said they can replace them. If it is the solenoids I plan on replacing them all and the pressure regulator along with seals and fluid flush with new filter. The dealerships did say fluid levels were spot on, but I'll get a second opinion from the tranny shop.

The dealership isn't allowed to open the transmission as directed, but didn't know they received codes for the solenoids. Before you change solenoids, a fluid and filter service may clear up those codes. The valve body may just have clogged passage ways that prevent the solenoid from diverting pressure. But it seems like your current course of action should alleviate the problem. Fluid wise, you should not need anything more than a Dexron VI synthetic.
