E53 X5's real Gas mileage - POLL

Ok, I'm in the process of looking for an X5, 2004-2006, and I'm trying to decide between the 6 or the 8 cylinder.

Poll answer this:

3.0L or 4.xL
city/hwy mileage

thanks

I have a 06 4.4i and I get about 18.5 on the highway. Gas mileage is weak, dont get the 8 cylinder if you want great mileage.

The real world mpg difference is negligible, imo. The bigger question is:
do you tow stuff, do you want/need a V8 vs IL 6, etc.

Neither engined car is an "econo" car, esp when gas gets back to $3.50+
this summer and $4 down the road. And, maintenance costs on either
one remove the X from the reasonable used car to own category, imo.

Fwiw, our '01 3.0 with 5 spd manual shows 20.6 mpg on the dashboard
readout, over 76,000 miles. On trips we average 20-22, which is 75%
of that accumulated mileage. In the seldom stop and go, it is probably
more like 14-15...

There is an easy set up for a "Poll", if you re-edit your orig. post.

And, there are pages of threads on "gas mileage" and IL 6 vs V8 "debate",
on this board, via Search Tab.

19s with 50/50 mix of city/hwy, 2005 3.0. hardly use steptronic, frequently use lead foot to initiate kickdown. 93 pump gas.

2005 BMW X5 4.4 and I get a little under 19 mpg in combined city/highway (cruising around 70mph) On long trips it gets around 20mpg or a little better. I have an 2002 BMW X5 3.0 and it generally gets 1-2 mpg better. I feel like it is not that huge of a difference and i enjoy having the extra grunt of the V8!!

Depends on weather I want to have fun or be conservative.
The 4X4 get 15-17 city, and a few times saw 23 highway.
Mostly a little over 20 highway. Your results may vary.
