Towing Seadoos - Waverunners - on a 3.0 X5

Allright guys,

I just installed a OEM hitch on my X5 and was wondering how would the engine handle towing like two seadoos or waverunners?

Or a Seadoo Speedster boat like this one:

What you think?

I towed my 17' Four Winns Horizon with single axle trailer with my 2001 3.0 and it did great!

You didn't like the answer you got in this thread here?

The two Seadoo watercraft you mentioned originally weigh around 750 lbs, typically. The 15' Seadoo you show here weights around 1500 lbs. Add the weight of a trailer, a few hundred pounds. You shouldn't even require brakes. I towed over 4000 lbs with my 3.0 X5, without any difficulty. It was rated for 5000 lbs, your 2004 model is rated for 6000 lbs. You do need to be aware that you are towing when driving, and not drive as if you have no load on, particularly with respect to cruising speed, and long downhill runs.

You don't need to worry until you get up to this level;

Here is a 3.0 towing a 6000 lb boat.

Here are some more shots of significant trailer loads on the X5.

I had concerns about towing a jetski with a 3.0 so I opted for a 4.4. My opinion was to have more hp than too little. However, make sure you hook up and program the brake light module. The module also senses loads and, I think, has something built in to control trailer sway...this is with an OEM hitch.

peice of cake like i said in the other thread. i'm pulling a 2000# open trailer with a 2500# e30 on it. OEM hitch and not an issue.
