What The !@#$

Filled the always hungry X5 last night....pulled away and the Fuel Gauge did not reset itself. Pulled into another gas station to make sure it was not my imagination, and shut it off...topped it again and it is still reading screwed up....now on Sat I did fill with it running by accident, could that of had an effect? If I disconnect the battery will that reset it? Please advise....

I am starting to have thoughts about that dark alley on the wrong side of town again.
