The "rear ended", lunging, or lurching topic has been discussed many times. I believe it was usually tranny software related, but try searching since I could be telling lies.

Well, here is an '03 with it. I suppose first order of business would be to reset the transmission memory then drive gingerly. Instructions here.

In another post, I saw the instruction for it disconnecting the battery and so resetting the memory for at least 12 hours.

I will try both the solution, than I will let you know.

I have the same problems!! on 01. 4.4

Bye

I had the same problem for the last 2 years untill 2 day ago when I was able fix it myself after spending one month and a half all together in shops, dealers and over $ 900 .They all are tech but without the computers ...the are just a bunch of idiots.Last tech told me that it will cost me $8000 to have the trans replaced.Anyway the problem was w/ the idle speed....when the engine was cold ...no problem the rpm is a litle bit higher but w/ engine warm ...at every stop I was feeling the " rear ended" because the throtle control (inside), before intake mainfold had a lot of gease and dust deposits and the engine couldnt breath at low rpm.The dust got there because they were really careless and slopy when they replace the air filter .Need more info I can help

no error codes ...everything fine .......but for just sec when u relese the gas pedal ...there was no enough air at the idle for the engine to breathe but throtle control valve adjust itself right away and the computer doesnt take the "faulty".Trust me on this one ....clean inside the throtle control unit. The "rear end " feeling when stoping.... cost me the transfer case and the front drive shaft

My '05 4.4i does that as well when coming to a stop. Took it to my a dealer twice now and they adjusted the idle speed which helped some, but hasn't completely erased the problem.

So transfer case and front drive shaft?

Looks like I'll be printing this thread off and taking it in

From what I've read of the problem it sounds like an issue I had with my 2000 4.4i. It ended up being the transmission valve body. Once replaced the issue went away. Cost of the part from BMW is $1,800. My mechanic got it directly from the manufacturer for $550.
