Can I paint my exhaust tips?

I have a 2001 X5 3.0 and my exhaust tips and the mufflers look light brownish/grey. They are looking discolored, and I want to spray paint them black like they were when new. What do you suggest? Please let me know if this can be done? Espesially the mufflers.

You can make it with a silicone based paint (colors : black or aluminium).

Just ask for a silicone high temperature spray paint to your industrial stuff local distributor.

I have the black ones that come on the sports package, but they are fading? What is upu with that? I am going to try and paint them first.

I think you can if you prep them properly and use high heat paint. It will be a matte finish though. Personally, I wouldn't bother painting the muffler and if I did, at most I would only paint the surface that is visible from the rear. I would buy some OEM covers/tips like the ones that come on the Sport Package (charcoal/black gloss) or chrome ones. Another idea is to buy the 4.6is tips and have them welded on to your existing exhaust. Be cautioned that care needs to be used to make sure they go on straight. Someone just did this and the shop welded them on crooked. Check with Crevier BMW or Pacific BMW. Also eBay sometimes has them. Or you can go all out and buy a whole new exhaust like a Remus, Eisenmann, Dinan, or Tri-Flo.

If you want to spray them black ,then use a high temperature spray as mentioned by the other members.If you want to have the high polished look,
you can remove (wet sand paper)the discoloration down to the bare stainless and have you tips polished.If you are going to do it yourself you need an Orbital poilisher and metal cream.
